Improving the efficiency counting of Cherenkov detector by using high transmittance photonic crystal materials

Abstract In this study, a new type of photonic crystal (PC) designed as transmitter. The transmittance spectra the one-dimensional (1D) which are consist silicon dioxide/magnesium fluoride (SiO 2 /MgF ). We simulated results using different incident angles, and showed high (99.5%) within wavelength range (200–700 nm). Simulations two-dimensional (2D) crystals were studied, well values investigated. As transmitter, in array SiO MgF with periodicities N = 5 employed around wall Cherenkov counter vial. PC allows light to pass without any losing its initial intensity improves counting efficiency, is utilized wide applications. By replacing traditional polyethylene (generally used fabricate walls vial) allow most emitted radiation reach photomultiplier tube way tube. Subsequently, efficiency was improved. Comparing for both crystal, it found that will be increased by 15% one-dimension 9.5% two-dimensions if vial replaced .
